Michigan will honor Naz Hillmon (2019-22) prior to the game, raising her No. 00 jersey to the rafters at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Notes
• Michigan is seeking its first season sweep of Michigan State since the 2022-23 season. U-M earned a 94-91 overtime win in East Lansing two weeks ago (Feb. 1).
• Hillmon's No. 00 jersey will be honored as the second women's jersey to hang in the Crisler Center rafters. The first All-American in program history, Hillmon is the only Wolverine in Michigan basketball history, man or woman, with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. She graduated as the program leader in rebounds (1,063), double-doubles (52) and free throws made (487), and still ranks first in all three categories. Hillmon is second all-time in scoring with 2,183 points, playing 21 fewer games than all-time leading scorer Katelynn Flaherty.
Hillmon was a two-time (2021, 2022) first-team All-American by the WBCA, USBWA, The Athletic and Sports Illustrated, while earning first-team honors from the Associated Press and Wooden Award as a senior in 2022. She was a four-time All-Big Ten first-team selection, becoming the first player in program history to earn four first-team honors. Hillmon is one of two players in Big Ten history to be named Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Sixth Player of the Year in a career. A two-time Michigan Female Athlete of the Year, she helped Michigan reach the Sweet 16 in 2021 and the Elite Eight in 2022. Hillmon was selected by the Atlanta Dream with the 15th pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft and was named the 2025 WNBA Sixth Player of the Year.
• Michigan has won two straight in the series after its 94-91 overtime win in East Lansing (Feb. 1). Michigan State leads the all-time series, 74-27. Twelve of Michigan's 27 wins have come under head coach Kim Barnes Arico. Michigan is looking for its first season sweep of the Spartans since 2022-23.
• It marks just the third time in the rivalry that both teams are ranked in the top 25 of the Associated Press poll and the second time both are in the top 15. The first occurred last season when No. 21 Michigan State defeated No. 24 Michigan in Ann Arbor on Jan. 25, 2025. The teams were also both in the top 15 earlier this season when No. 9 U-M earned the overtime win over No. 13 MSU.
• Michigan is 12-2 in Big Ten play, currently sitting in second place by half a game in the conference standings. Michigan's 11-1 start in conference play before falling to UCLA set a program record. The Wolverines' 12 Big Ten wins are the third most in program history. U-M won 13 conference games in 1999-2000 and 2021-22.
• Michigan enters as the top-scoring team in the conference and ranks fifth nationally at 86.6 points per game. U-M is 19-0 when scoring at least 80 points after putting up 80 at Northwestern (Feb. 12).
• Michigan has three players averaging double figures in sophomores Olivia Olson (18.9 ppg), Syla Swords (14.1 ppg) and Mila Holloway (12.8 ppg). Olson has scored in double figures in all 25 games and has reached 20 points in each of the last six games.
• The Spartans are Michigan's seventh ranked opponent this season. U-M is 3-3 against top-25 teams, with losses to No. 1 UConn, No. 2 UCLA and No. 5 Vanderbilt by a combined nine points, three-point margins in each game.
• Michigan has one regular-season home game remaining after Sunday, hosting Maryland in the season finale on Feb. 28.
