
Singles Play Lifts Wolverines to Win over Visiting Broncos

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team used strong singles play to defeat Western Michigan 4-1 on Friday (Feb. 13) at the Varsity Tennis Center, securing a stretch of 17 straight wins over the cross-state squad.
Senior Nicholas Steiglehner clinched the match for Michigan at No. 3 singles with a dominating 7-6 (1) tiebreak in the second set after a 6-2 win in the first set, getting back in the win column.
No. 7-ranked Max Dahlin took care of Ashton Adesoro easily at No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Arnav Bhandari earned his first dual win of the season with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Dimitri Moriarty at No. 6 singles. Classmate Pierce Shaya earned his first win at No. 5, taking down Jack Davison 7-5, 6-2.
The Broncos took the doubles point and the early lead, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Dahlin and Shaya stayed hot at No. 1 doubles, improving to 4-0, with a 6-4 victory.
The Wolverines are back in action at the Varsity Tennis Center next Saturday (Feb. 21), when they host Ball State at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
