
Top-Ranked Michigan to Host No. 13 Greenville, No. 15 Simpson to Kick Off 2026

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 1-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (0-0) will open its 2026 slate at home, hosting No. 13 Greenville (0-0) and No. 15 Simpson (0-0) at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 10) in Cliff Keen Arena. Admission to the meet is free of charge, with the tri-meet to be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• For the fourth straight season, Michigan opens against Greenville and Simpson. U-M has won the last three meetings, including posting a score of 310.900 last season to defeat the Panthers (299.450) and the Storm (287.400).
• The Wolverines ended the 2025 season with their fifth straight Big Ten Championship and seventh NCAA Championship, the team's first since 2014.
• At the NCAA Championships, hosted at Crisler Center, senior Fred Richard claimed the all-around title, while fellow Wolverine and 2024 Team USA Olympic medalist Paul Juda won the parallel bars title. Michigan clinched the championship with a score of 332.224 in the team finals, edging out second-place Stanford by just 0.163 points.
• Richard earned seven All-America honors in the all-around and all six events, the first NCAA gymnast to do so in a single season. He also won his third straight Big Ten Gymnast of the Championships honor after also taking the all-around title at the conference championships.
• Head coach Yuan Xiao was named 2025 Big Ten Coach of the Year, his fourth consecutive honor, and the College Gymnastics Association Coach of the Year. Jordan Gaarenstroom and Juha Tanskanen were recognized as Assistant Coaches of the Year.
• Michigan held its annual Maize and Blue intrasquad on Dec. 6, with Maize defeating Blue for the first time in three years. Richard took the parallel bars and high bar titles and placed in the top three in his other three events.
• In their debuts as Wolverines, freshmen Eli Osuna and Adam Lakomy won the floor exercise and vault titles, respectively. Sophomore Aaronson Mansberger secured the pommel horse title, while junior Akshay Puri won the still rings.
• The Wolverines will next travel to Columbus for the Ohio State Open on Sunday, Jan. 18.
