Michigan Puts Up 95 Points in Road Win at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team picked up its first win at Indiana since 2014, leading wire-to-wire in a 95-67 victory over the Hoosiers on Thursday evening (Jan. 29) at Assembly Hall. The win was Michigan's 14th by at least 20 points on the season.
Michigan (18-3, 9-1 Big Ten) had three players in double figures, paced by a season-high 27 points from Olivia Olson. Mila Holloway turned in 17 points, four rebounds and five assists, with Syla Swords chipping in 10 points, four assists and five steals. Michigan shot 51.5 percent from the floor, along with a 43.8 percent clip from three-point range. U-M turned in 54 points in the paint and 16 second-chance points, while turning 23 IU turnovers into 34 points.
Michigan raced out to a 12-3 lead in the opening minutes of the game, getting six points from Olson and two each from Swords, Ashley Sofilkanich and Holloway for a nine-point lead with just over four minutes gone in the contest. Michigan led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter, eventually taking a 24-15 lead after 10 minutes behind nine points from Olson and seven from Swords.
Michigan got back-to-back three-pointers from Holloway and Macy Brown in the opening moments of the second quarter to push the lead to 14, 32-18. After an Indiana bucket, Michigan scored eight straight behind six points from Olson and a bucket from Kendall Dudley to double up the Hoosiers, 40-20, and force an Indiana timeout at the 6:08 mark of the second.
Michigan ended the half on a 7-0 run over the final 2:09 of the second quarter, taking a 49-31 lead into the locker room. U-M shot 63.6 percent from the floor over the first 20 minutes, getting 17 points from Olson and eight from Holloway.
The Hoosiers cut Michigan's lead to 13 points, 51-38, just about two minutes into the third quarter. U-M answered with a three-point play from Brooke Quarles Daniels, regaining a 16-point lead with 7:44 on the third-quarter clock. U-M grabbed a 20-point lead on a pair of Olson free throws with just under five minutes remaining, with the lead never dipping below 20 the rest of the way.
U-M's lead hit 30, 90-60, on an Alyssa Crockett three-pointer with Holloway cashing in on the next possession from deep for the largest lead of the game (33) with 3:55 remaining.
Eleven Wolverines found the scoring column as Michigan picked up its ninth Big Ten win of the season.
Michigan will head to East Lansing on Sunday (Feb. 1) to take on Michigan State at the Breslin Center. The game is set for noon and can be seen on FS1.
