ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan swimming and diving program announced the hiring of Lyle Yost as an assistant diving coach on Thursday (Aug. 28).
Yost joins the Wolverines after serving one year as the assistant diving coach at Ohio State, where he coached six divers across the men's and women's teams to the NCAA Championships during the 2024-25 season.
Yost entered the coaching ranks after a decorated career as a collegiate diver at OSU. He won the one-meter national championship in back-to-back seasons in 2023 and 2024 and captured CSCAA Diver of the Year honors in 2023 after earning first-team All-America honors in all three diving events at the NCAA Championships.
"Lyle will be an incredible asset to the Michigan team," said head diving coach Brandon Loschiavo. "Not only will he be a leader on the boards himself and a pro athlete, but he will have the ability to guide our athletes through years of experience on the competition and coaching sides. I couldn't be happier having him be a part of this program and I'm excited to see where we're able to take Michigan in these proceeding years."
Yost also shined on the international stage, winning the one-meter dive competition at the 2022 U.S. Open and the 2024 Winter Nationals. Yost also competed in two World Aquatics Championships and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2024.
Out of the pool, Yost excelled in the classroom, earning CSCAA Scholar All-America and Academic All-Big Ten honors four times. Yost was also recognized with the Big Ten Medal of Honor and the Arthur Ashe Jr. Male Sports Scholar of the Year award. Yost was tabbed to the CSC Academic All-America second team.
Yost graduated from Ohio State with bachelor's degree in Spanish and a master's degree in world language education.
