COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After a day of rain, winds and delays, redshirt-sophomore Mara Janess of the University of Michigan women's golf team followed her opening 74 with a second-round 79 on Tuesday (May 6) and is tied for 45th with a 153 36-hole total at the NCAA Columbus Regional on the OSU Golf Club's Scarlet Course.
With scoring up nearly four strokes due to the weather, Janess opened her second regional round with back-to-back bogeys (Nos. 1 and 2) before getting a shot back with a birdie on the par-3, 159-yard fifth hole. A double-bogey on the sixth pushed her to three-over as she reached the turn.
With steady rain, she opened the back nine with three straight bogeys before a second birdie (No. 15), which helped her sit five-over. Closing with two more bogeys, Janess carded a 79 to end the second day.
With the fifth-best invited individual total, Janess will close out her time in Columbus playing with Youngstown State's Neeranuch Prajunpanich (t-41st; 73-79/152) for a second straight day and Bradley's Jillian Cosler (t-47th; 75-79/154). The trio will start the 10th tee at 9:50 a.m.
Arkansas (580) sits atop the team leaderboard, while UNLV is one shot back at 581. After leading the field following the first round, host Ohio State (582) is tied for third along with Kansas (582). In the fifth spot is SMU at 592.
The top-five teams and the top individual spot among non-qualifying teams will advance to the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa championships in Carlsbad, Calif.
