ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan freshman utility player Lauren Putz was named to the D1Softball Freshman All-America first team, the outlet announced on Thursday (May 29). She is the first Wolverine rookie to earn the recognition in the second year of the annual award. D1Softball is the only organization to name Freshman All-Americans.
Putz, who was also named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and the top-25 list for the 2025 NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year, ranked top 15 among the nation's freshman leaders in several offensive categories, including runs per game (.85), total hits (64) and doubles (14) -- she led all Big Ten freshmen in those three categories -- and slugging percentage (.722).
Putz started all 60 games, splitting time between first base and designated player, in her first collegiate season. She listed among the Wolverines' top-three leaders in every offensive category with a .392 batting average -- the best average for a U-M freshman since Lexie Blair batted .406 in 2019 -- along with 51 runs, 69 hits, including 29 for extra bases, and 48 RBI.
She registered 21 multi-hit and 13 multi-RBI games and ended the season on a six-game hitting streak in postseason play, highlighted by a .625 (5-for-8) batting average with three RBI in NCAA Regional action.
