
McNamara Paces Wolverines on Day Two of B1G Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team sits in 14th place after day two of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, with Clare McNamara setting a pair of personal bests, top-10 program marks and three team points in the heptathlon on Saturday (May 17) at Hayward Field.
McNamara opened the competition for the second day in a row, jumping for a personal best of 5.54 meters (18 feet, 2.25 inches) in the long jump to sit in 13th place overall with 3,905 points.
She then posted a pair of personal-best marks in the javelin, throwing for 47.84m (156-11) on her first attempt before improving to 51.54m (169-1) on her second. The mark is No. 2 on the program performers list and is 0.82m shy of the program record. The graduate student is one of just three Wolverines to break 50 meters in program history and sat in sixth place with 4,795 points heading into the final event. McNamara ran 2:14.30 in the 800-meter run to close out the heptathlon with a sixth-place finish and a personal-best score of 5,698 points. The mark is No. 3 on the program performers list.
Freshman Stephanie Bertram advanced to the 800-meter run finals, finishing sixth in the preliminaries and setting a new personal best of 2:04.88 to qualify by time. The mark is No. 9 on the program performers list. Penelopea Gordon finished 19th (2:08.83), Alyna Lewis finished 23rd (2:09.59), Hannah Pricco finished 26th (2:10.40) and Coraline Haggarty finished 28th (2:11.57).
Payton Smith ran 54.43 seconds in the 400-meter dash to finish 16th, while BreeAna Bates finished 18th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.83 to come 0.29 seconds shy of her personal best.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Leah Hill finished first in her heat and 14th overall with a personal-best time of 10:33.18.
Abigail Russell finished 19th in the discus throw (48.01m/157-6), the second of three events for the freshman. Maya Anderson placed 22nd in the long jump with a mark of 5.29m (17-4.25).
The Wolverines will close out the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Sunday (May 18) at Hayward Field, opening the day at 10 a.m. PT with the javelin throw.
