PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan water polo team closed out the CWPA Championship with a 14-8 win over Bucknell on Saturday (April 27) morning at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. With the victory, the Wolverines secured third place in the conference.
Emilia Mladjan led the Wolverines with four goals, consistently driving the offense throughout the game. Ari Karampetsou played a pivotal role, scoring three goals in the fourth quarter to help Michigan (19-11) pull away and secure the win. Brooke Ingram also made an impact with two goals.
Michigan opened the scoring early with a goal from Ingram. Less than two minutes later, Maiken Pardon added another to give the Wolverines a quick 2-0 lead. After Bucknell (15-14) got on the board, U-M answered with two more goals, one from Mladjan and another from Sophia Panossian, to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter continued with strong defensive play. U-M allowed just one goal in the period and added two more of its own. Lulu Hirschfield scored on an exclusion, and Ingram scored her second goal of the day to give the U-M a 6-2 advantage at halftime.
The Wolverines came out of halftime looking to extend their lead, and Mladjan quickly scored to make it 7-2. However, U-M struggled to keep momentum as Bucknell answered with a few goals. Michigan had several chances on exclusions but couldn't convert, allowing Bucknell to stay within reach. Although the Wolverines' defense made key stops late in the quarter, the lead narrowed to 7-5 heading into the final eight minutes.
The Maize and Blue responded with a dominant final quarter. Karampetsou scored three goals in the first few minutes to push Michigan's lead back to a comfortable margin. Kasey Umlauf and Kaia Levenfeld added goals during the run, and Mladjan scored two more to finish her four-goal performance. U-M outscored Bucknell, 7-3, in the fourth quarter to lock up the win in its final game of the 2025 season.
