
Janess' Career Best, Top-10 Finish Rallies U-M to Eighth at Chattanooga Classic

» With a career-low 69 (-3) from Mara Janess, Michigan rallied in the final round with a 298 to finish eighth with a 915 total at the Chattanooga Classic at the Honors Course.
» With threats of inclement weather on Sunday, Chattanooga's three-day event was reduced to two days as the 15-team field played 36 holes today to get 54-holes in.
» After an opening 78, Janess rallied with a 74 (+2) in the second round and closed with a career-low 69 (-3) -- to not only crack 70 for the first time -- but earn a top-10 finish, tying for seventh (221).

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. -- With her career-low 69 (-3) in the final round, redshirt sophomore Mara Janess led the University of Michigan women's golf team to a closing 298 team tally (Saturday, March 29) to tie for eighth with a 915 54-hole total at the Chattanooga Classic played at the Honors Course.
After opening with a 311 in Friday's opening round, the Maize and Blue closed the first day 13th. With inclement weather threatening Sunday's final round, the tournament was reduced to a two day event as the 15-team field would play 36 holes on Saturday.
U-M responded as Janess' 74 (+2) and sophomore Grace Wang's 76, helped the Wolverines post a 306 and move up one spot after 36 holes with a 617 total. Heading straight into the final round, Janess used 13 pars and four birdies to crack the 70-stroke barrier for the first time as she posted a career-low 69 (-3). Her round paced U-M to a 298 team tally, helping the Wolverines jump four spots with a 915 event total.
For the third time this spring, Janess closed with a top-15 finish -- and her second top 10 -- as she tied for seventh with her 221 (78-74-69). Junior Sydney Sung followed tying for 35th at 229 (76-77-76) and Lauren Sung tied for 50th at 232 (80-76-76).
The Maize and Blue will close its regular season by heading to Big Ten country and College Park, Md., for the Terps Invitational, Sunday and Monday (April 6-7). The two-day, 54-hole finale is scheduled to be played at the University of Maryland Golf Course.
