TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team concluded its first outdoor meet of the season, the USF Alumni Invitational, on Saturday (March 22) at USF Track and Field Stadium.
BreeAna Bates finished 13th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.90 seconds, just 0.36 shy of her career best. Noelani Phillips finished 11th in the 400-meter dash (54.43), coming just 0.80 seconds shy of her personal best.
Four Wolverines placed in the top 10 of the 1,500-meter run, with Samantha Hastie's sixth-place finish (4:25.90) leading the effort. Freshman Stephanie Bertram finished just behind Hastie in seventh (4:26.01), while Penelopea Gordon placed eighth (4:26.96). Coraline Haggarty finished 10th with a time of 4:31.00.
Gabriella Newman set a new personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches) to finish sixth. Abigail Russell also finished sixth, throwing for 48.84m (160-3) in the discus throw.
U-M will head to a pair of meets next weekend, splitting between Raleigh, N.C., for the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State on Thursday and Friday (March 27-28) and Baton Rouge, La., for the Battle on the Bayou hosted by LSU on Friday and Saturday (March 28-29).
