ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (9-3, 2-0 Big Ten) returns to the Varsity Tennis Center this weekend for a pair of Big Ten matches. First up for the Wolverines is No. 10-ranked Ohio State (8-1, 2-0 Big Ten) on Saturday (March 15), followed by Penn State (11-1, 2-0 Big Ten) on Sunday (March 16). Notes
• The No. 6-ranked Wolverines continue Big Ten action this weekend after shutting out both Nebraska and Iowa to start conference play last week. U-M is back at the Varsity Tennis Center for the first time since recording a 4-2 win over then-No. 16 Oklahoma State on Feb. 21. The Maize and Blue is 4-0 at home this season.
• U-M has won 30 straight Big Ten regular-season matches, dating back to the 2021-22 season. Michigan has not allowed a point to a conference opponent in a regular-season match since a 6-1 win over Minnesota on April 14, 2024. The Wolverines allowed just five points to Big Ten teams in the regular season en route to their second-straight Big Ten championship.
• Michigan had six different players record a singles win over its two shutout victories last weekend. Bayley Sheinin made her dual-match debut, earning a straight-set win at No. 6 against Nebraska (March 7).
• Michigan moved to No. 6 in this week's ITA rankings, with Ohio State checking in at No. 10. The Buckeyes will be Michigan's seventh ranked opponent of the season.
• This marks the first of two regular-season matches against Ohio State, as the teams will complete a home-and-home series. The contest in Ann Arbor will be a Big Ten match, while the match in Columbus will count as a non-conference matchup.
• The Wolverines won the doubles point in both matches last weekend, marking the first time U-M grabbed a 1-0 lead since a 4-0 win over LSU (Feb. 7) at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The Wolverines used the lineup of Jessica Bernales and Piper Charney at No. 1, Reese Miller and Julia Fliegner at No. 2, and Ava Bruno and Lily Jones at No. 3. Charney and Bernales check in at No. 27 in the doubles rankings, with Fliegner and Miller coming in at No. 48.
• Fliegner vaulted up to No. 2 in last week's singles rankings, the highest ranking of her career. She holds a 25-4 overall record in singles and an 8-0 record in dual matches. Fliegner has 105 career singles wins at Michigan, ranking ninth all-time in program history.
• Joining Fliegner in the singles rankings are No. 25 Charney, No. 31 Jones, No. 80 Miller, and No. 95 Emily Sartz-Lunde. U-M also has three ranked doubles teams.
• The Wolverines have been strong at the top of the lineup, with Fliegner and Charney combining to go 17-1 at the top two spots. Fliegner is 8-0 at No. 1 and 1-0 at No. 2, while Charney holds an 8-1 mark at No. 2.
• Head coach Ronni Bernstein enters her 18th season at the helm, holding a 532-195 overall coaching record. She ranks eighth nationally among active coaches in total wins and 18th all-time in career victories.
• Michigan heads out west next weekend to face two of the new Big Ten teams, playing at UCLA on March 22 and at USC on March 23.
