
Wolverines to Continue Spring Heading Back to Augusta Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team continues its swing of tournaments in March, heading to Augusta, Ga., on Saturday and Sunday (March 15-16) for the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will be held at the Forest Hills Golf Club. The course will be set up for a par 72 and 6,200 yards.
Notes
• There will be 13 teams in the field for the Augusta Invitational, including Augusta, No. 31 Central Florida. Coastal Carolina, Emory, Furman, No. 36 Georgia Southern, Michigan, No. 21 Michigan State, North Florida, Northern Illinois, South Florida, Texas Tech and Yale.
• U-M will travel the five starters and an individual to the Augusta Invitational. Redshirt-sophomore Mara Janess, junior Lauren Sung, junior Sydney Sung, sophomore Grace Wang and freshman Thomasine Bartholdson, who will make her collegiate debut, and first career start, make up U-M's starting five.
• With final-day team totals of 283 (-5) and 289 (+1), Michigan posted one of three sub-par 54-hole tournament totals (859, -5) to tie for runner-up honors at the 2024 Valspar Augusta Invitational. Hailey Borja and Sidney Yermish paced the Wolverines as they tied for eighth at 214 (-2). In one of U-M's most challenging fields, the 17-team field featured six top-25 ranked teams and 13 top-50 programs.
• Janess continued her strong start to the spring season, posting a third straight career-low 70 to start her run at the Gators Invitational. With her 214 (+4) tally, she led the Wolverines for the second straight spring event and for the fourth time this season. In the spring-opening Spartans Sun Coast Invitational, she had a career weekend, tying for third with a career-low 212 (-4,) including back-to-back closing 70s. She leads U-M with a 73.50 scoring average.
• Lauren Sung is behind Janess with a 73.67 scoring average. Each Wolverine has four rounds of par this season, with Janess holding a slight lead in sub-par rounds, three to two. As a team, U-M has seven sub-par tallies and 10 of par. Overall, the Wolverines averaged 74.75 per round.
• Newcomer Bartholdson will make her collegiate debut as an individual at the Augusta Invitational. The Stockholm, Sweden, native posted 10 top-10 finishes while competing in the Chilean Golf Federation before heading to Ann Arbor.
• Fellow newcomer Guo will make her third straight start of the spring at the Augusta Invitational. She had a career-best performance in the spring opener, the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational, as she tied for 30th with a new career-low 221, including a career-low 72 (E) in the second round. She followed with a 227 tally at the Gators Invitational to tie for 52nd.
• In the fall season, the Maize and Blue had at least one Wolverine close to the top 20 in all four events. This spring, Janess and Lauren Sung paced the Wolverines with the top two finishes for U-M. In the Spartans Sun Coast Invitational, Janess tied for third (212, -4), while Sung tied for ninth (215, -1). In the Gators Invitational, Janess tied for 13th (214), while Sung tied for 17th (215).
