ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (16-7, 7-5 Big Ten) heads to East Lansing to wrap up its season series against No. 20-ranked Michigan State (18-4, 8-3 Big Ten) on Sunday (Feb. 9). The game is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on FS1.
Notes
• After dropping a pair of games to end the month of January, Michigan is out to a 2-0 start in February. Over the last two games, Michigan has averaged 79.0 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting from the floor and 43.9 percent from deep. The U-M defense has allowed just 54.0 points per game over the two-game winning streak. All five of Michigan's starters are averaging double figures in points -- Olivia Olson at 13.0 ppg, Greta Kampschroeder and Mila Holloway at 12.5 ppg, Syla Swords at 12.0 ppg and Jordan Hobbs at 11.5 ppg.
• Kampschroeder recorded her fifth double-figure scoring game at Nebraska (Feb. 6), finishing with 16 points on the strength of five triples. It was the second time this season she hit at least five three-pointers in a game. In Big Ten games, Kampschroeder is shooting 51.4 percent from three-point range.
• Michigan is looking for its second win over a ranked team this season after picking up a 70-65 win at No. 23 Minnesota on Jan. 22, its first ranked win on the road since knocking off No. 22 Ohio State in Columbus on Jan. 27, 2022. U-M has faced (with rankings at the time) No. 1 South Carolina, No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 4 USC, No. 1 UCLA, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 21 Michigan State and No. 23 Minnesota. This is the eighth time Michigan is playing a top-25 team this season.
• MSU leads the all-time series 74-25 after a win in Ann Arbor on Jan. 25. MSU swept the Wolverines last year after Michigan recorded the sweep in 2022-23. The Spartans are the only team Michigan faces twice during the regular season.
• Te'Yala Delfosse has made a difference off the bench for Michigan, most recently turning in nine points and four rebounds in 15 minutes at Nebraska (Feb. 6). Michigan was +24 when the freshman was on the floor. She hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the third quarter against Oregon (Feb. 2) that made ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 plays. On the season, she is averaging 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per game. She has appeared in 15 games after missing the early portion of the season with an injury.
• U-M has had a player record a double-double in its last two games; before that, the last double-double came at the Fort Myers Tip-Off over Thanksgiving. In Michigan's win over Oregon (Feb. 2), Olson had 18 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Hobbs recorded her second double-double in the win at Nebraska (Feb. 6), going for 14 points and 10 rebounds.
• Michigan is the only team nationally to have a pair of freshmen averaging at least 15 points per game. Olson (16.3 ppg) ranks sixth nationally in scoring by a freshman, with Swords (15.0 ppg) coming in at No. 12. There are only 12 freshmen nationally averaging at least 15 points per game. There have been only five freshmen in program history to average at least 15 points per game during their first season in Ann Arbor.
• After this game, Michigan has just five regular-season games remaining. Next up for Michigan is a return to Crisler Center to host Indiana on Wednesday (Feb. 12) at 7 p.m.
