
U-M Splits Pair With Virginia, Tennessee on Day Two of CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team split two dual meets on Saturday (Nov. 22) at the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge, defeating No.12 Virginia before falling to host No. 9 Tennessee at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
The Michigan men got their first win of the challenge with a 24-20 win over Virginia. The quartet of Jack Wilkening, Luka Mladenovic, Tyler Ray and Ole Eidam opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:24.11. Lorne Wigginton followed up with a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a mark of 4:14.50.
Mladenovic took the top spot in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:53.22. The Wolverines sealed the meet win with a triumph in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Eidam, Ray, Antoine Sauve and Wilkening registered a time of 1:16.83.
The Wolverines faced off against No. 9-ranked Tennessee in the evening matchup for the second time in as many days. Michigan fell 36-5 to the Volunteers to finish the second day of competition.
Against Tennessee, Wigginton finished second in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:42.78, while fellow sophomore William Savarese took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:55.77.
Michigan will face Virginia for the second time in the competition on Sunday (Nov. 23) at 10 a.m. at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatics Center as the teams race for the event's third-place crown.
