MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team competed at the Big Ten Individual Championships this weekend (Oct. 24-26) at the Nielson Tennis Center.
Bjorn Swenson advanced the furthest for the Wolverines in singles play, reaching the third round. The senior defeated Karan Raghavenra (Indiana) 6-2, 6-0 in the second round before falling to David Saye (Michigan State) in the third. Swenson capped the weekend with a 6-2, 7-6 (1) victory over Henry Lamchinniah (Nebraska) in the consolation draw.
Freshman Arnav Bhandari collected the most singles wins for U-M, finishing 3-1 in consolation play. He earned straight-set victories over Mutjaba Ali-Khan (Purdue) 7-5, 6-2 and rallied from a set down to defeat two Nebraska players in back-to-back 10-point deciding sets.
Michigan will host the ITA Sectionals at the Varsity Tennis Center from Thursday through Sunday (Nov. 6-9). Admission is free.
