
Dahlin Qualifies for NCAA Singles Tournament With Semifinal Win at ITA Midwest Regionals

CHICAGO, Ill. -- University of Michigan sophomore Max Dahlin qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship on Monday (Oct. 20) with a semifinal victory at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the XS Tennis Village.
Dahlin went 5-0 during the four-day competition, beginning with straight-set wins over Brandon Carpico (Ohio State), Peter Nad (Notre Dame) and Collin Beduhn (Wisconsin) in the first three rounds. He topped Chase Thompson (Notre Dame) 6-4, 6-2 in Sunday's (Oct. 19) quarterfinal before winning a marathon over Sebastian Dominko (Notre Dame) in the semifinal on Monday. After falling 6-3 in the first set, Dahlin won 6-3 in the second set and won 7-6 (10) in the deciding third set.
The finalists decided to not play the final and were crowned co-champions.
Mert Oral and Pierce Shaya advanced out of the qualifying singles draw to the main draw. Oral won his opening main-draw match against Edouard Aubert (Wisconsin) 5-7, 6-3, 7-2 and finished his weekend with a 4-1 record. Shaya lost in the opening round of the main draw, but finished with a 3-2 singles record with two wins in qualifying and one in consolation.
Nicholas Steiglehner went 2-1 with wins in the consolation and backdraw. Steiglehner and Shaya partnered in the doubles main draw and won their opening match 8-2 over Illinois-Chicago's Artem Alekseychuk and Henrique Sa but fell in the round of 32.
The NCAA Individual Championships begin Monday, Nov. 17 in Athens, Ga.
