ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team hosted its lone tournament of the fall, welcoming a six-team field for the Wolverine Invitational this weekend (Oct. 10-12) at the Varsity Tennis Center. Joining the Wolverines were Michigan State, Iowa, Eastern Michigan, Miami, Northwestern, and Ohio State.
All 10 Wolverines competed over the three-day event, with freshmen Laura Maser, Laura Rahnel, and Gabriella Lindgren each making their home debuts at the VTC. It also marked the collegiate debut for Rahnel, a left-hander from Estonia.
Maser, Rahnel, Reese Miller, Lily Jones, Emily Sartz-Lunde, and Jessica Bernales each went 3-0 in singles play. Miller highlighted Michigan's singles success, dropping just six total games across her three matches.
Michigan was equally dominant in doubles, compiling a 14-1 record over the weekend. Miller and Lindgren went 3-0 as partners, as did Jones and Bernales -- the two Wolverine pairs that remained together throughout the event.
U-M continues its fall schedule next week at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Champaign, Ill. The six-day event (Oct. 16–21) at the Atkins Tennis Center will feature berths to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships on the line.
