June 25 -- Savannah Sutherland
Bowerman Award Semifinalist
» Savannah Sutherland is the first Wolverine in program history to be named a Bowerman Award semifinalist. It is bestowed to collegiate track and field's top male and female athlete for the year. Finalists will be announced on July 7.
» Sutherland captured her second national title and first-team All-America honors in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships on June 14, running a personal-best 52.46 seconds and set five records in the process -- the NCAA record, NCAA Championship meet record, Big Ten record, Michigan program record and Canadian national record. She earned First Team All-America honors for her performance.
» She is just the third Wolverine in program history to win multiple NCAA individual titles. Sutherland was named the 2025 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Women's Track Athlete of the Year for third straight year and was named USTFCCCA Women's Track Athlete of Year, the first time a Michigan athlete has earned the honor.
Feb. 5 -- Savannah Sutherland
Bowerman Award Watch List
» Savannah Sutherland remains on the Bowerman Watch List, having received votes in the Mid-Indoor Watch List update.
» She set the 200-meter dash program record in back-to-back meets with a time of 23.26 seconds.
» Sutherland is part of two 4x400-meter relay teams to post top-10 program performances (fourth, 3:35.38; fifth, 3:35.46) in consecutive meets.
Jan. 15 -- Abigail Russell
Big Ten Freshman of the Week
» Abigail Russell had a breakout debut at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 11), posting a second-place finish in the weight throw (18.63m/61 feet, 1.5 inches) for the No. 7 mark on the program performers list.
» Finished third in the shot put with a mark of 14.35m (47-1)
» This award marks the first conference honor of her career.
Jan. 8 -- Savannah Sutherland
Bowerman Award Preseason Watch List
» Savannah Sutherland found herself on the Bowerman Preseason Watch List after receiving votes but was not among the top 10 in the initial voting.
» The Bowerman is awarded annually to the most outstanding male and female NCAA student-athlete and is named after Oregon track and field and cross country coach Bill Bowerman.
» Sutherland was the 2023 NCAA 400-meter hurdles national champion and the 2024 NCAA 400-meter hurdles runner-up.
» She broke the 400-meter hurdles program record in back-to-back races at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, posting times of 54.04 seconds in the preliminaries and 53.26 in the finals. Both times set the Canadian national record for the event.
» Competed for Canada at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (53.88) as the first Canadian to reach the event finals since 1996. Ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay finals, running a split time of 50.06 for the fastest leg of Canada's sixth-place finish (3:22.1).
