ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (14-7, 5-5 Big Ten) is out to snap a two-game losing streak, returning to Crisler to host Oregon (16-5, 7-3 Big Ten) on Saturday (Feb. 2) at noon at Crisler Center. It is Michigan's annual Pink Game, presented by the Rogel Cancer Center.
Notes
• Michigan is out to snap a two-game losing streak after falling at Wisconsin on Wednesday (Jan. 29). Prior to the last two games, U-M had won four in a row.
• Olivia Olson joined Syla Swords in the 30-point club, going for 30 points on 13-for-19 shooting from the floor at Wisconsin (Jan. 29). Michigan is the only school nationally to have two different freshmen reach 30 points in a single game. There have only been 14 30-point games recorded by freshmen this season nationally.
• Mila Holloway has stepped right into the starting point guard role as a freshman and has not missed a beat. She has started all 21 games, averaging 10.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 27.9 minutes per game. She has led Michigan in assists in 14 games. Holloway is the only freshman in the Big Ten and one of five first-year players nationally to average double figures in scoring and at least four assists per game.
• The game against Oregon is its annual Pink Game, presented by Rogel Cancer Center. Michigan met with a group of breast cancer survivors on Thursday (Jan. 30) prior to its pink game. The group of women will be featured on the video board introducing Michigan's starting lineup. U-M will wear maize uniforms with pink trim and pink shoes for the contest. In addition, Greta Kampschroeder designed the warmup shirt that the coaching staff will also be wearing.
• Michigan's trio of freshman starters continue to shine, with Swords (23), Olson (19) and Holloway (12) combining for 54 of Michigan's 70 points in its win at No. 23 Minnesota (Jan. 22). Holloway and Swords combined to account for all 11 points in an 11-0 run to start the third quarter, erasing a four-point halftime deficit. A jumper from Olson to start the fourth quarter pushed Michigan ahead by one point, a lead U-M did not relinquish the rest of the way. On the season, Olson is leading the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game, Swords is the leading rebounder at 6.1 rebounds per game and Holloway is the team leader in assists at 4.3 dimes per game. Michigan is the only team in the Big Ten to have freshmen as team leaders in points, rebounds and assists.
• U-M will hit the road for two straight games following this contest, heading to Nebraska (Feb. 6) and wrapping up its series against Michigan State on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 9). Â
