University of Michigan medical school student Sam Grewe made his third Olympic appearance, finishing eighth in the high jump. Grewe's classification is T63.
The Goshen, Ind., native cleared the first two heights of 1.67m (5 feet, 5.75 inches) and 1.72m (5 feet, 7.75 inches) on the first attempt before failing to clear the third height of 1.77m (5 feet, 9.75 inches) for a final mark of 1.72m.
Fellow American Ezra Frech (1.94m/6-4.5) won gold while Sharad Kumar (1.88m/6-2) and Mariyappan Thangavelu (1.85m/6-0.75), both of India, rounded out the podium finishers.
Grewe previously set the Paralympic high jump T63 record of 1.88m on his way to a gold medal in Tokyo, with Frech's mark of 1.94m setting the new standard.
