For the first time in 46 years, Team USA captured Olympic gold in men's ice hockey, defeating Canada, 2-1 in overtime, in the gold-medal game at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The victory marks the United States' first men's hockey gold medal since the legendary Miracle on Ice team of 1980.

This is the first time Michigan players have won gold at the Olympics, with a previous 21 Olympians winning eight medals. The last Wolverine to win a medal was Carl Hagelin in 2014 with Sweden.
