
U-M to Trek to Indianapolis for NCAA Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team will close out its 2023-24 season with a trip to Indianapolis, Ind., for the NCAA Championships. The four-day meet will start on Wednesday (March 27) and will finish on Saturday (March 30). Wednesday will feature two relays starting at 6 p.m. while the remaining three days will have two sessions each day beginning at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. All sessions will be streamed live on ESPN+.Â
Notes
• Ten student-athletes will represent U-M in Indianapolis with nine swimmers and one diver making the trip. Seven athletes have qualified for individual events and the remaining three earned a spot as part of a relay team.
• Standout junior Gal Groumi leads the way for the Wolverines after qualifying for three individual events, the 100- and 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard IM. Groumi took home individual conference titles in the 200 fly and 200 IM at the Big Ten Championships in Columbus. Groumi's 200 IM time of 1:39.60 is the fastest in school and Big Ten Championship history. Groumi's 200 fly mark of 1:39.60 checks in as the third-best time in the country.
• Senior Bence Szabados enters the national championships with momentum after capturing his first career individual Big Ten championship in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 42.09. Szabados will also hit the pool for the 50-yard freestyle.
• Sophomore Tyler Ray punched his ticket to Indianapolis in both individual butterfly events. Ray's 100 fly time of 44.77 ranks 12th in the nation while his 200 fly season-best mark checks in at 11th in the NCAA.
• Newly crowned Big Ten Freshman of the Year Colin Geer will look to end his season on a high note as he competes in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM. Geer is poised to be a factor in the 200 fly with a season-best time of 1:41.32 which ranks 17th in the field.
• Rounding out the swimming individual qualifiers is Eitan Ben-Shitrit and Jack Wilkening. Ben-Shitrit will join Geer and Groumi in the 200 IM while Wilkening will represent the Maize and Blue in the 100-yard backstroke.
• Cameron Gammage will compete on the three-meter springboard after posting a qualifying score of 719.15 after 12 dives to earn the right to compete for a national championship.
• Michigan qualified for all five relay events and will start the meet with the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay on Wednesday (March 27).
