
Michigan to Host ITA Sectional Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team will host the ITA Sectional Championships this week (Nov. 7-10) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The tournament is scheduled to be played outdoors at the VTC. Admission is free.
Only players and doubles teams who have yet to earn entry into the NCAA Championships and have made deep runs at the ITA All-American or ITA Regional Championships are eligible to participate.
The 2024 ITA Sectional Championships will feature a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw. From these, six singles players from each section (24 total) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists and two quarterfinal playoff winners). Three doubles teams from each section (12 total) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship (champion, finalist, and third-place team).
The Central Sectional Championships include teams from the Midwest, Central, and Texas regions. Schools represented at the VTC are Michigan, Texas A&M, TCU, Memphis, Baylor, Ohio State, Iowa, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Iowa State, Illinois, Houston, Texas, Northwestern, and Kansas State.
Representing Michigan in singles are Piper Charney, Reese Miller, Lily Jones, Emily Sartz-Lunde, and Jessica Bernales. In doubles, Michigan has four teams participating: Miller/Julia Fliegner, Charney/Sartz-Lunde, Jones/Bernales, and Bayley Sheinin/Ava Bruno. Fliegner has already qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship.

2:30 p.m. — Doubles Round of 16 (8 matches)
Friday, Nov. 8
10 a.m. — Singles Round of 16 (8 matches)
10 a.m. (Indoors) — Singles Consolation Round of 16 (8 matches)
2:30 p.m. — Doubles Quarterfinals (4 matches) and Doubles Consolation Quarterfinals (4 matches)
Saturday, Nov. 9
10 a.m. — Singles Quarterfinals (4 matches) and Singles Consolation Quarterfinals (4 matches)
Noon — Singles Consolation Semifinals (2 matches)
2:30 p.m. — Doubles Semifinals (2 matches) and Doubles Consolation Semifinals (2 matches)
Sunday, Nov. 10 (match times may vary depending on who is playing in singles and doubles)
10 a.m. — Singles Quarterfinal Playoff (2 matches), Singles Semifinals (2 matches), and Singles Consolation Final (1 match)
Noon — Singles Final (1 match)
2:30 p.m. — Doubles Final (1 match), Doubles Third Place Playoff (1 match), and Doubles Consolation Final (1 match)
