
Sung Helps Wolverines Close Fall Season Finishing Ninth at Nanea Invitational

» With her second top-20 finish of the fall, Lauren Sung helped Michigan to a 903-closing team total to finish ninth in its fall finale at the Nanea Invitational at the Nanea Golf Club.
» With her season-best 218 (-1) tally, Sung tied for 16th in the 60-golfer field. Earlier this season, she tied for 20th at the Mary Fossum Invitational.
» Suzie Tran's 226 tally helped her tie for 33rd. She highlighted her event posting a career-low-tying 71 (-2) in the first round, which was her first collegiate sub-par round.
» Jenna Shilts made her collegiate debut, and first career start, tying for 52nd at 235 (79-78-78).

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii -- Led by junior Lauren Sung's second top-20 finish, the University of Michigan women's golf team closed its fall slate posting a 301 final round on Wednesday (Oct. 30) to tally a 903 54-hole team total and finish ninth at the Nanea Invitational at the Nanea Golf Club.
With a field that included seven top-50 programs, including No. 1 Stanford, the Maize and Blue got off to a solid start. Using a career-low-tying, first-career sub-par 71 (-2) from freshman Suzie Tran and an even 73 from Lauren Sung, U-M tallied a 297 to position itself eighth after day one.
A season-low 70 (-3) by Lauren Sung and a 75 (+2) from sister Sydney Sung paced the Wolverines in the second round, but the Wolverines' 305 saw them slip to 10th with a 602 two-day total. Bouncing back with 74s (+1) from redshirt-sophomore Mara Janess and Tran and a closing 75 (+2) from Lauren Sung, U-M finished with a final-round 301 and a 903-team total to finish ninth. Just two strokes separated places eight through 10 as Washington was eighth at 902 and BYU was 10th at 904.
With her season-best 218 (-1, 73-70-75) tally, Lauren Sung posted her second top 20 finish of the fall as she tied for 16th in the 60-golfer field. Earlier this season, she tied for 20th at the Mary Fossum Invitational. Using her final-round 71 (-2), Tran closed with a 226 total to tie for 33rd, while Sydney Sung tied for 46th at 232.
Freshman Jenna Shilts made her college debut, and first career start, tying for 52nd with a 235 (78-79-78) total.
With the completion of the Nanea Invitational, the Wolverines have wrapped up their 2024 fall schedule. The Maize and Blue will shift its focus to the winter training break. The next time U-M will compete will be in 2025 when the Wolverines head to Sarasota, Fla., on Sunday and Monday, Feb. 16-17 for Michigan State's Spartan Suncoast Invitational -- expected to be played at the Palm Aire Country Club.
