
Postgame Notes: #22 Illinois 21, #24 Michigan 7

• In the 98th meeting between Michigan and Illinois, the Wolverines fell to 72-24-2 all-time.
• Offensive lineman Andrew Gentry made his first career start at right tackle today. Fourteen (14) players have now made their first career starts this fall including Gentry: wide receiver Kendrick Bell, center Greg Crippen, center Dominick Giudice, tight end Marlin Klein, right tackle Evan Link, wide receivers Fredrick Moore and Peyton O'Leary, quarterback Alex Orji, quarterback Davis Warren on offense; defensive back Zeke Berry, edge TJ Guy, defensive back Jyaire Hill, and edge Derrick Moore on defense.
• Quarterback Jack Tuttle is the eighth player to have made his first career start for the Wolverines this season, after earning starting assignments at their previous institutions. Others include C.J. Charleston (wide receiver), Josh Priebe (offensive line), Jaishawn Barham (linebacker), Aamir Hall (cornerback) Ernest Hausmann (linebacker), Josaiah Stewart (edge), and Dominic Zvada (kicker).
• Michigan's only points came with under two minutes remaining in the first half, Kalel Mullings scored his seventh touchdown of the year on a one-yard plunge. It capped a 12-play, 72-yard drive for U-M.
• Mullings closed the day with 19 rushes for 87 yards and one touchdown.
• On the ensuing Illinois possession, Makari Paige blocked a field goal attempt as time in the half wound down. It was U-M's second blocked field goal this year and in as many weeks (Mason Graham, at Washington).
• The blocked field goal gives U-M's special teams unit a blocked kick in three straight games (punt vs. Minnesota; field goals at Washington, at Illinois).
• Donovan Edwards entered the game at 4.84 yards per carry. Over the last four games (USC, Minnesota, Washington, Illinois), Edwards is up to 5.7 yards per carry (44 carries, 249 yards). Edwards' two longest runs have come in that span (39, 41 yards) along with two of his three touchdowns.
• Tight end Colston Loveland has been the leader or co-leader in receptions for U-M in every game he has played this season (six), with 36 total catches.
• Loveland added seven receptions and 83 receiving yards in today's effort.
• Tight end Hogan Hansen set career highs in catches (four) and receiving yards (50).
• His first-half pass breakup gave defensive back Jyaire Hill at least one PBU in six of the team's seven games.
