RALEIGH, N.C. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team completed its first fall competition of the season on Sunday (Sept. 24) at the NC State Ranked Spotlight. U-M had four players competing at the event in Kari Miller, Julia Fliegner, Lily Jones and Piper Charney.
The Wolverines quartet combined for 12 singles wins, with Miller going 4-1 at the event with wins over four ranked singles players. She won her final three matches, highlighted by a three-set win over No. 18-ranked Tanya Sasnouskaya of Texas on the final day of competition.
Fliegner rebounded from a tough start, winning her final three matches to finish with a 3-2 record. The No. 41-ranked singles player, Fliegner won matches over the No. 36, No. 52 and No. 79-ranked players to end her tourney.
Jones reached the quarterfinals of the singles A-1 draw after getting a first-round win over No. 9 Carol Lee and a second-round win over No. 30 Abby Forbes. After falling in the quarters, Jones split her consolation matches to finish with a 3-2 record.
Charney made her U-M debut, earning a pair of singles wins after finishing her weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kaitlyn Carnicella of Auburn. Charney went 2-3 at the event in her first collegiate action.
U-M is back in tournament action next Friday through Sunday (Sept. 29-Oct. 1) at the Varsity Tennis Center, hosting the Wolverine Invitational.
