ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up its three-day home invitational on Sunday (Oct. 1) at the Varsity Tennis Center, with the Wolverines combining for 12 singles wins between five players and a 5-1 record on the doubles court.
In her first collegiate action, freshman Reese Miller went a perfect 3-0 on the singles court and teamed with Bayley Sheinin for a 3-0 doubles mark. Miller and Sheinin rallied in their last two doubles matches for wins, ripping off five straight games against Arizona State's Sara Svetac and Rachel Hanford for a 6-4 win on Saturday (Sept. 30). The Wolverine duo finished the weekend unbeaten behind a 6-3 victory over Yale's Mirabelle Bretkelly and Erin Ha on Sunday. Michigan was broken to start the match but slowly chipped away, eventually winning the final four games in the victory.
Making her home debut after winning a pair of singles matches at last weekend's NC State Ranked Spotlight, freshman Piper Charney strung together a 3-0 singles record and combined with Jaedan Brown for a 2-1 showing in doubles. Charney did not drop a set in singles, moving her singles record to 5-3 on the young season.
Brown won a pair of straight-set matches in her season debut, with Gala Mesochoritou also going 2-0 as neither Wolverines saw singles action on Sunday and Sheinin completing a 2-1 record.
Michigan will send four players -- Brown, Kari Miller, Julia Fliegner and Lily Jones -- to this week's ITA All-American (Oct. 2-8) in Cary, N.C.
