Miller's Run Ends in Quarters at ITA All-American

CARY, N.C. -- Kari Miller of the University of Michigan women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships at the Cary Tennis Park, knocking off the No. 1-ranked singles player during her run.
Miller defeated top-ranked Fiona Crawley of North Carolina in the second round to advance to the quarters, winning 7-5, 7-5 to snap Crawley's 18-match fall winning streak dating back to last season. Miller battled back from an early break in the second set, taking the match in straight sets to move on. Her run came to an end in the quarterfinals as she fell to No. 7-ranked Ayana Akli of South Carolina, 6-2, 6-4.
U-M had three players in the main draw of the event, with Lily Jones and Jaedan Brown joining Miller. Jones won the ITA Summer Circuit to punch her ticket, with Brown receiving an entry based on her ranking.
Brown and Miller teamed up as the No. 4 seed in the doubles main draw, winning their first match before falling in the second. It was the second straight year that Miller and Brown participated as a doubles pair at the All-American.
Julia Fliegner went 2-1 in singles qualifying, dropping her first match but rebounding to win her final two.
Michigan is back in action next week Thursday through Tuesday (Oct. 12-17) at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in East Lansing.
