NORMAN, Okla. -- Five University of Michigan men's golfers were honored Wednesday (Aug. 9) by being named Golf Coaches Association of America Division I All-America Scholars. The Maize and Blue list includes Will Anderson, Ben Hoagland, Jude Kim, Yuqi Liu and Hunter Thomson.
With a total of 21 all-time scholar accolades from the GCAA, the Wolverines had never had more than three honorees (2017). This year, all five are first-time recipients.
The All-America honors only continue to highlight U-M's academic honors in 2022-23. With no freshmen on the roster, the entire nine-member squad was honored with Academic All-Big Ten selections, while Anderson, Liu, Pier Francesco De Col and James Hill received Big Ten Distinguished Scholar awards -- the most ever in a single season. Additionally, eight Wolverines were selected as U-M Academic Achievement honorees.
To be eligible for the GCAA's prestigious honor, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. They must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient also must be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
A total of 548 NCAA Division I golfers from 194 schools earned the honor.
