
Postgame Notes: #2 Michigan 41, Purdue 13

• Tonight's announced attendance of 110,245 marks the 314th consecutive crowd of 100,000-plus at Michigan Stadium.
• The honorary captains for tonight's games were U-M's 2022-23 Athletes of the Year in their respective sports: Sierra Brooks (women's gymnastics), Paul Juda (men's gymnastics) and Mason Parris (wrestling). Adam Fantilli (ice hockey) was included in the group of honorees but could not attend.
• U-M has won 21 consecutive games at Michigan Stadium dating back to 2021, the program's longest streak since 1969-73 under Bo Schembechler (28) and tied for the third-longest in program history.
• The Wolverines have been victorious in 21 straight Big Ten games dating to 2021, the longest streak in program history.
• The Big Ten does not recognize the 2021 or 2022 Big Ten championship games as conference matchups, so according to the league, U-M is at 19 straight Big Ten wins, tied with Gary Moeller's 1990-92 teams for the longest stretch in Michigan history.
• U-M has won 24 consecutive regular-season games dating to 2021, tied for the fifth-longest streak in Big Ten history.
• After scoring 45 points at Nebraska, 52 points at Minnesota and against Indiana, 49 at Michigan State, and 41 against Purdue, the Wolverines extended their program record of scoring 40-plus points in five straight Big Ten games.
• With 41 points against Purdue, Michigan has scored (239) points over their last five contests against Big Ten opponents, which is the most across five conference games in program history.
• U-M's streak of scoring 30-plus points has hit 12 straight games, the longest in program history. The 1976 squad (eight straight games) previously held the record.
• Michigan scored 20 or more points in the first half for the fifth consecutive game. The Wolverines have hit that mark in seven of nine games this season.
• In beating Purdue by 28 points, Michigan's cumulative point differential (226) against Big Ten opponents this season is the highest through six conference games in program history.
• Registering 445 yards of offense on Saturday, the Wolverines have earned more than 400 total offensive yards against every Big Ten opponent, and in eight of nine games, this season.
• With 335 passing yards (24-for-37) today, quarterback J.J. McCarthy's 5,369 passing yards eclipse Tom Brady (5,351 career pass yards) for ninth all-time. He stands 80 yards shy of head coach Jim Harbaugh (5,499 yards).
• In McCarthy's 22 career starts, U-M is 21-1. In that span, the offense has registered 209 drives in which the quarterback starts and finishes the possession (excludes kneel-downs). The Wolverines have points on 127 of those drives (60.8 percent) with 95 touchdowns (45.0 percent of all drives) and 32 field goals.
• After scoring three touchdowns on the ground Saturday, running back Blake Corum is now tied for second on the career rushing touchdowns list with Tyrone Wheatley at 47. The all-time leader is Anthony Thomas, who recorded 55 career rushing touchdowns between 1991 and 1994. With 16 touchdowns on the year, Corum also leads the nation in rushing touchdowns this season, ahead of La'Damian Webb (15) and Kairee Robinson (13).
• After catching three passes for 41 yards on Saturday, running back Donovan Edwards has taken sole possession of eighth all-time among U-M running backs in receptions (62), passing Chris Howard who caught 60 total passes between 1994 and 1997. He is two shy of Gerald White for seventh on the list, and ranks fourth in receiving yards by a running back with 690, 120 shy of the career record held by Anthony Thomas (810).
• Wide receiver Roman Wilson set career highs in receptions and receiving yards with 9 catches for 143 yards. The night was highlighted by three 20-yard-plus receptions and a 35-yard grab in the fourth quarter. Wilson leads the team with 12 20-yard-plus-plays.
• Wide receiver Semaj Morgan scored his first career rushing touchdown on Saturday with a 44-yard run in the third quarter. His rush was the second-longest gain on the ground of any Michigan player this season (Corum, 54 yards vs. Bowling Green).
• No opponent has scored more than one touchdown against the U-M defense. All six touchdowns U-M has allowed this year have been on explosive plays: a 20-yard rush by UNLV, a 69-yard pass by Rutgers, a 74-yard rush by Nebraska, a 35-yard pass by Minnesota, a 44-yard pass by Indiana, and a 24-yard pass by Purdue. No team has run a play inside Michigan's 10-yard line this year.
• Prior to today, the Wolverines forced opponents to a third-down conversion rate of 32.4 percent (34-for-105) while their offensive third-down conversion percentage ranked second nationally at 56.5 percent (48-for-85). The Boilermakers converted 1-of-14 third downs today.
• In total, Michigan has forced 15 turnovers (12 interceptions, three fumble recoveries) and lost six turnovers with at least one interception-for in seven straight games.
• Michigan has outscored opponents 114-0 in the third quarter this season after pitching another shutout in the third frame against Purdue.
• Defensive back Will Johnson recorded his second interception of the season in the second quarter. On the season, U-M has allowed three passing touchdowns to 12 interceptions.
• Defensive back Makari Paige led the defense with a career-high eight total tackles (previously seven, TCU)
• Kicker James Turner converted a Michigan career-high two field goals on both his attempts (30 and 31 yards). Turner has hit 8-of-10 field goals on the season.
• Punter Tommy Doman made the Boilermakers work in the shadow of their own end zone all night. All four of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line, the first Wolverine to do so since Brad Robbins against Indiana in 2020, and two were downed inside the 10.
• Big Ten sack leader Kydran Jenkins failed to record a sack on Saturday. The Purdue pass rusher's season total stands at 7.0.
