
Wolverine Women Pick Up Three Wins on Final Day, Finish Third at Georgia Invite

ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team finished strong on the final day of the Georgia Invitational, picking up a trio of wins on Saturday (Nov. 18) at Gabrielsen Natatorium. U-M secured third place with a final tally of 724.5 points.
Florida (1,146) earned first place, followed by Auburn (789).
Standout freshman Stephanie Balduccini picked up where she left off on Friday (Nov. 17), winning the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.26 seconds and picking up an NCAA 'B' cut along the way. Fellow first-year Hannah Bellard logged the top time in the 200-yard buttefly, touching the wall at 1:53.21, a time that met the NCAA 'B' standard.
The last win of the day came in the 400-yard freestyle relay where the quartet of Balduccini, Claire Newman, Lindsay Flynn and Christey Liang posted an 'A' cut time of 3:10.30, finishing ahead of the Florida A team by more than a second on the way to the victory.
Other strong performances on Saturday included Casey Chung, who posted a top-10 finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.37. Along with Balduccini's win in the 100 free, Flynn, Newman and Liang all logged 'B' cut times and top-eight results along the way. Katie Crom registered a sixth-place time at 1:56.46 in the 200 fly.
In platform diving, Taylor Peters tallied a score of 251.90 to finish sixth overall to close out the weekend in the dive well for the Maize and Blue.
The Wolverines will next be back in the pool in 2024 when they return to Canham Natatorium on Friday, Jan. 19 to take on Big Ten rival Indiana at noon. Admission is free to all regular-season home meets.
