
Wolverines to Travel to UNC's Ruth's Chris Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team heads down to Chapel Hill, N.C., to play in North Carolina's Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 9-10) for the eighth time in program history. The two-day, 54-hole (36-18) event will be held at the Governors Club while UNC's home course, the Finley, continues its renovations.
Notes
• There will be 14 teams among the field for the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational including: Auburn, Baylor, Campbell, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, NC State, Rollins, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
• U-M will travel five starters to Chapel Hill, as the Wolverines will be headed up by senior Monet Chun and fifth-year senior Hailey Borja. Freshman Sidney Yermish makes their third straight start, while sophomore twins Lauren and Sydney Sung will make the trip to UNC.
• Michigan has made seven previous trips to North Carolina's home event. U-M has back-to-back top-seven finishes after its seventh-place showing in 2021 with its lowest 54-hole tally of 866 at the Finley Golf Course. The Maize and Blue followed by tying for fifth in 2022 (883) at the Governors Club after former Wolverine Anika Dy's even-par tally (216, E) and top-10 finish (t-8th).
• Borja is making her fourth career trip to Chapel Hill. In her two appearances on the Finley Golf Course, she tied for third in 2021 (210, -6) and tied for 32nd (218, +2). Playing on the Governors Club, she tied for 26th (223) in 2022. With five of her nine rounds at or below par, she has averaged 72.33 per round in Chapel Hill, including a career-low-tying 68 (-4) in the second round of the 2021 event.
• Borja has opened her fifth season posting a pair of top-15 individual finishes after tying for ninth (218, +2) at the Mary Fossum Invitational and tying for 15th (221) at the Glass City Invitational. She fired a season-low-tying 69 (-3) in the first round in East Lansing and the final round in Toledo. She leads the Wolverines with a 73.17 per-round average.
• With a season-low 67 (-5) in the final round of the Glass City Invitational, Chun recorded her ninth sub-par 54-hole total at 215 (-1) and led the Wolverines finishing sixth. She is second on U-M with her 74.00 scoring average.
• Borja is scheduled to make her 42nd career start at UNC'S home event, while Chun is set to make the 34th of her career, including starting her last 17 straight. Lauren and Sydney Sung both will start their first events of the season and will start in the same event for the sixth time. Yermish has started both of U-M's events so far.
• Sydney Sung opened her season at the Mary Fossum Invitational playing as an individual and posted the second-lowest 54-hole total (226) of her young career. She was three shots off her career low of 223 tallied at the 2023 NCAA Westfield Regional (May 8-10).
