ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team (7-7) will close out its non-conference schedule at in-state foe Central Michigan (1-12) at 1 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 22) at Cristy Freese Field in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The matchup will be streamed live on Chippewas All-Access.
Notes:
• Senior Kate McLaughlin had a hand in both Michigan goals in its 2-1 win against Penn State last Sunday (Oct. 15), assisting on graduate student Isabella Palde's tying goal in the second quarter before netting the game-winner at 34:28 early in the third. McLaughlin has three goals and a career-best four assists on the season.
• Palde has two goals over the Wolverines' last three games and four total on the season -- just one shy of her career best. She posted five markers as a sophomore (2021) at Cornell and came to Michigan with eight career goals.
• Eleven different Wolverine players have scored at least one goal this season, including seven different goal scorers in Michigan's win over Davidson on Sept. 8. Freshman Kelsey Reviello leads U-M with five goals over a six-game stretch, while eight Wolverines own multiple goals. Michigan has outscored its opposition 26-18.
• Newcomers have accounted for half (13-of-26) of the Wolverines' goals this season.
• Junior/sophomore goalkeeper Caylie McMahon has averaged 1.14 goals allowed over the Wolverines' last seven games and has contributed to four shutout wins this season, including a 2-0 win in Big Ten play at Indiana (Sept. 29).
• All seven Michigan losses this season have come against ranked opponents, including two -- North Carolina (Aug. 25) and Iowa (Sept. 22) -- who were ranked No. 1 at the time of the meeting.
• Central Michigan enters the weekend with a 1-12 record, including 12 consecutive losses after a 3-2 win over Colgate in its 2023 season opener (Aug. 25). Most recently, the Chippewas fell 5-0 to Ohio last Friday (Oct. 13). Zoey Emrick leads CMU with four goals, while goalkeeper Maja Halasz owns a 4.74 goals-against average and .632 save percentage. Michigan owns a 40-15-2 record in the all-time series against Central Michigan, including 12 straight wins dating back to 2010. U-M earned a 9-0 win in the last matchup last season in Ann Arbor.
• Junior Abby Tamer will redshirt the 2023 season to train and compete with the USA Field Hockey Women's National Team in its bid to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. Tamer, a 2022 NFHCA All-West Region second team honoree who has accumulated 13 goals and nine assists over 39 games played and two seasons at Michigan, earned her first senior-level international cap and goal in June.
