Schulz was one of three Wolverines to finish among the top 12 in the 54-golfer field. In her fall debut, Schulz carded a 77 in Monday's (Oct. 16) opening round. Positioned tied for ninth, she used four final-round birdies to card her 10th career sub-par tally with a 71 (-1). With that round in tow, she jumped seven spots to tie as the runner-up with Illinois-Chicago's Dasa Urbankova (73-75). Oakland's Bridget Boczar took medalist honors with her 143 (-1; 71-73).
Leading the Wolverines on the first day, redshirt-freshman Mara Janess opened with an even-par 72 and was tied for second after 18 holes. Following with a 78 in the second round yielding a 150 total, she tied for fifth. Sophomore Sydney Sung made it three Wolverines among the top 12 after her 154 (78-76) total earned her a tie for 11th.
The Wolverines waste little time before their next competition as they head to the West Coast to play in the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Friday through Sunday (Oct. 20-22). The three-day, 54-hole event will be held at the Stanford Golf Course and features some of the top teams nationally among the 19-team field.
The event hosted by former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice also will feature the field wearing pink for the final round, or throughout the three days, to help support October's Breast Cancer Awareness month as each team will "Play for Her."
