STILLWATER, Okla. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team finished 10th at the Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday morning (Sept. 24) at Greiner Family Cross Country Course.
The Wolverines raced against 11 Top-30 teams, finishing 10th with 235 points with host Oklahoma State coming in first at 70 points.
Individually, Michigan was led by junior Kayla Windemuller, who was the top runner for the Maize and Blue at the kilometer marks throughout the race leading to her finish of 14th overall in a time of 20:43.4. Senior Sam Tran started out slow but picked up the pace throughout the race. At the first kilometer, Tran was 134th then passed 20 competitors over the remaining course for a 34th-place finish (21:07.1).
Junior Katelynne Hart (21:11.9) took 41st, fifth-year senior Samantha Saenz (21:28.8) finished 66th in her debut and graduate student Danielle Page (21:48.1) placed in 94th.
Through the first kilometer, the top 36 competitors -- which included Windemuller and Hart -- were separated by less than two seconds with the gap widening to just five seconds at the halfway point with the Wolverine duo in that front pack.
Freshman Haley Deighan had an impressive debut, finishing as the Wolverines' seventh runner with a time of 21:52.8 -- good for 99th place overall.
