Hunter Thomson (Feb. 9)
Big Ten Golfer of the Week -- With his 4-0 match play record guiding Michigan to the Big Ten Match Play title, Hunter Thomson was named the Big Ten's Golfer of the Week. He became the third U-M golfer to go undefeated, joining former Wolverines Patrick Sullivan (2020; 4-0) and Kyle Mueller (2015; 4-0) on the exclusive list. With a dramatic final putt in the opening round, Thomson helped the No. 8-seeded Wolverines defeat No. 7 Penn State 3-2. In the quarterfinals, he posted a dominating 6-and-4 victory over MSU's Drew Hackett to advance U-M to the winner's bracket. With a pair of 1-up closing victories, Thomson helped U-M defeat the top three seeds -- No. 2 MSU (3.5-1.5), No. 3 Indiana (3-2) and No. 1 Northwestern (3-2) -- and win the programs second conference match play title. » Big Ten Release
Ben Hoagland (Sept. 7)
Big Ten Golfer of the Week -- Playing as an individual in the season opening Island Resort Intercollegiate, redshirt-junior Ben Hoagland paced the Wolverines with a career weekend. He opened the event setting a new career-low by two strokes with a 72 (E), then topped that with a new career-best 67 (-5) in the second round behind five birdies and an eagle to position him among the top five, two shots off the lead. Hoagland ended play with a second straight sub-par round (71, -1) to finished the event with a career-low 210 (-6) -- 19 shots better than his previous best 54-hole performance. » Big Ten Release
Hunter Thomson, Will Anderson, Jude Kim (Aug. 31)
Big Ten Golfers to Watch -- Sophomore Hunter Thomson and juniors Will Anderson and Jude Kim were named Michigan's Big Ten Preseason Golfers to Watch. The Wolverines were led by their young core of Thomson and Anderson last season.
Thomson burst onto the scene, leading U-M in scoring (73.09) in his first year, while Anderson was just behind at 73.40 per round. They combined to pace the Wolverines in eight of 11 events highlighted by Anderson's win at the Macdonald Cup and Thomson's runner-up finish at Desert Mountain.
After playing in two events as a freshman, Kim started three of his six events a year ago and posted a 75.00 scoring average, including shooting a career-low 67 (-3) in the second round of the Macdonald Cup -- one of three sub-par rounds on the season. » Big Ten Release
