
Shinavier Inducted into Michigan Athletic Trainer Society Hall of Fame

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior associate athletic trainer William Shinavier was inducted into the Michigan Athletic Trainer Society Hall of Fame on Friday (June 10).
Shinavier becomes the ninth Michigan athletic trainer to be inducted to the hall of fame with Christina Eyers being the last inductee in 2021.
Shinavier has been a member of the Michigan athletic training staff for the last 20 years, serving as the athletic trainer for men's soccer (2002-present), men's gymnastics (2004-2012) and softball (2002-2004). He also completed his master's degree at Michigan and was a graduate assistant in the athletic training office helping with the football and wrestling teams.
Along with his primary duties as the trainer for the men's soccer program, Shinavier supervises staff with the women's soccer, women's tennis and men's tennis programs while also assisting with the hiring of postgraduate fellows. Shinavier is part of a team that is collecting data for the NCAA/Department of Defense concussion study and is the liaison with the university's CAATE accredited Athletic Training program and alumni.
In order to be inducted in to the MATS Hall of Fame, candidates must contribute to the enhancement of the profession of athletic training in the state of Michigan, have related professional work (athletic training education, seminars/workshops, professional development activities, etc.), have volunteer work in the profession (Special Olympics, Olympics/National Teams, race medical staff, etc.), contribute these activities as a certified athletic trainer over a minimum of fifteen years (10 of these years must be active in the state of Michigan), be a current MATS member if practicing in the state of Michigan and possess a NPI number if currently practicing as an athletic trainer.
Shinavier serves as an adjunct lecturer and lab instructor for the Therapeutic Modalities Lab and teaches in-services for the postgraduate fellowship program.
Prior to his time at Michigan, Shinavier was at Quincy University for six years where he served as the head athletic trainer for two years before making his return to Michigan.
