ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team is sitting in 20th place at the NCAA Championships behind the efforts of Gal Groumi, who tied the Michigan School record in the 100-yard butterfly on the third day of competition on Friday (March 25) at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
Jared Daigle matched his exact time from prelims, posting a time of 3:40.74 to finish sixth in the B final and 14th overall in the 400-yard IM.
Gal Groumi tied the school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 44.82, good for second in the B final and tenth overall.
The quartet of Daigle, Groumi, Will Chan and Bence Szabados finished 22nd with a time of 3:05.98 in the 400-yard medley relay.
In the prelims, Daigle and Jake Mitchell kicked off day three of the NCAA Championships in the 400 IM. Daigle qualified for the B final with a time of 3:40.74, setting a new personal best-time and finishing 14th overall. Mitchell finished 36th with a time of 3:52.73.
Groumi qualified for his second B final of the Championships, this time in the 100-yard fly, finishing 11th with a time of 44.96 and setting a new personal best.
Patrick Callan finished tied for 22nd in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:33.14. Chan was the final Wolverine to swim in the prelims, just missing the B final in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 52.00 and finishing tied for 19th.
The final day of the NCAA men's swimming and diving championship will take place on Saturday (March 26) with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m.
