Cole Mattin (Nov. 15)
Big Ten Wrestler of the Week -- Senior Cole Mattin garnered Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honors after posting a 2-0 record with a pair of ranked wins during the Wolverines' road trip to the Tar Heel State. He earned a 9-0 major decision over Campbell's No. 21 Shannon Hanna with two takedowns and two back points before defeating North Carolina's No. 22 Lachlan McNeil 9-3 behind a takedown and four near-fall points. Mattin is 6-0 on the season and already boasts four wins over ranked opponents. » Big Ten Release
FloWrestling Preseason Rankings (Sept. 26)
Seven Wolverines appear in FloWrestling's preseason weight-class rankings, including four in the top 10 -- most notably No. 1 Will Lewan at 157 pounds. Lewan, who placed fifth at the 2022 NCAA Championships, is the weight's top returner this season after graduation and Princeton's Quincy Monday and Iowa State's David Carr -- Lewan's two losses at NCAAs -- both moving up to 165 pounds. Lewan posted a 21-7 record last season and also took second at the Big Ten Championships.
Fellow U-M All-Americans Cameron Amine (5th, 165 pounds) and Mason Parris (3rd, heavyweight) rank top five at their respective weights, while Dylan Ragusin, who reached the NCAA Round of 12 last season, lists sixth at 133 pounds. Jack Medley, who earned NWCA Honorable Mention All-America honors during the COVID-disrupted 2019-20 season, returns to the Wolverine lineup and ranks 20th at 125 pounds, while Chance Lamer (149) makes his national rankings debut at 22nd after posting a 17-2 record as a redshirt last year. Matt Finesilver rounds out U-M's preseason rankings at 13th at 184 pounds.
