ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan football team reached the 10-0 mark for the first time since 2006, battling the elements in a 34-3 win over Nebraska on Saturday (Nov. 11) at Michigan Stadium. For head coach Jim Harbaugh, the win marked his 50th Big Ten win at Michigan and his 100th career FBS victory.
Michigan put points on the board on three of its first five possessions, grabbing an early lead and never looking back. Running back Blake Corum continued his push for Heisman Trophy candidacy, hitting the 100-yard rushing mark in the first half and finishing with 162 yards with one score. Michigan dominated in the run game, going for 264 yards behind Corum and a career-best 68 yards from CJ Stokes.
The defense was overwhelming, limiting Nebraska to just three points and pitching another second-half shutout. U-M yielded just 146 yards of total offense to the Huskers, with Nebraska reaching the red zone just one time. Nebraska crossed midfield only twice in the contest, coming on its opening drive -- when the Huskers converted a 37-yard field goal at the 4:10 mark of the second quarter.
Michigan hit the halftime break with a 17-3 lead behind touchdowns from Corum and Ronnie Bell, along with a Jake Moody 30-yard field goal before time expired in the second quarter. Michigan forced Nebraska into three consecutive three-and-outs over the latter stages of the first quarter and beginning of the second quarter, seizing control of the contest.
The Wolverines held the Huskers off the scoreboard in the third quarter, extending their lead to 21-3 after a three-yard touchdown scamper from quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who went 8-for-17 through the air with another passing touchdown.
Michigan tacked on another 13 points in the fourth quarter on an Andrel Anthony fumble recovery in the end zone and a 43-yarder from Moody. The Huskers never got past their own 34 in the final period, running Michigan's winning streak to 10 games.
Michigan will end its 2022 home schedule with Senior Day next Saturday (Nov. 19) at noon against Illinois at Michigan Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on ABC.
