Wolverines Run to Strong Showing at EMU Fall Classic

DEXTER, Mich. -- The No. 26-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team saw a trio of runners finish 13th through 15th in a strong showing at the EMU Fall Classic on Friday (Oct. 21) at the Hudson Mills Metropark South Course.
The Wolverines raced against competitors from around the area, including Michigan State, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Windsor, Calvin and Lansing Community College as well as some professional runners.
Sophomore Natalie Desarbo finished in 13th place in a career-best time of 18:10.3 and was the top in-uniform Wolverine on the day, gaining on runners throughout the race after starting off slow. Of collegiate racers, Desarbo finished 10th.
Wolverines Amber Gall and Lauren Fulcher finished directly behind Desarbo in 14th and 15th, respectively. Gall ran 18:29.5 in her collegiate 5K debut and Fulcher ran 18:35.7, which ties her career best from earlier this season at the Michigan Open.
Michigan only had one other racer finish in Catrin Koselka, who finished in 38th in 20:21.9.
The day was highlighted by some great finishes from unattached Michigan runners, with freshman Abby Bonnema finishing third overall in 17:58.6, and freshman Leah Hill finishing 10th in 18:10.3. Bonnema was the first collegiate runner to finish on the day.
With this meet and the regular season now concluded, the Wolverines enter the postseason. First up, Michigan will host the Big Ten Championships next Friday (Oct. 28) at 10:45 a.m. at U-M Golf Course.
