Beneficiaries, Registration Info Announced for 2022 Big House 5K

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced Saturday (Jan. 15) the six charitable beneficiaries and registration information for the ninth annual Big House 5K. The 2022 race will include both live/in-person and virtual race options.
The 2022 race weekend will be held Friday through Sunday, April 8-10. Each race registration will include a tech T-shirt and race medal, and will provide a minimum $12 donation to the race charity partners. Exclusive to the live race, registration will also include a race bib equipped with a chip for official timing, complementary on-course race photos, and the iconic finish line on the 50-yard line of Michigan Stadium. Virtual race registration will include a replica "Go Blue M Club" banner and priority shipping.
In 2021, more than 3,500 virtual race participants provided a total of $71,000 to that year's Big House 5K beneficiaries.
The 2022 race also marks an exciting milestone, as we strive to surpass $1M raised historically for our non-profit beneficiaries since the inception of the Big House 5K in 2014.
Beneficiaries
The U-M Athletic Department received 37 applications from prospective beneficiaries for 2022. To select the final six, feedback was gathered from the Athletic Department leadership team and the Ginsberg Center on campus. The chosen beneficiaries address key areas of need, including social services, veteran support, environmental conservation, and the arts.

Registration and Pricing
Registration opens Saturday (Jan. 15) and is open to all ages. Space is limited in both the live and virtual events, so we strongly encourage early registration.
Live Race Pricing
- $27 -- January 15, 2022 - January 31, 2022
- $37 -- February 1, 2022 - February 28, 2022
- $47 -- March 1, 2022 - April 6, 2022 or sellout (whichever comes first)
The 2022 Live Big House 5K will be timed by EnMotive and official results will be provided upon completion of the event. We will award prizes for the following categories:
- Overall Male and Female
- Age Group Awards for First, Second, Third (Male & Female)
Notes:
- Children ages 5 & younger are $27 regardless of price window
- There is a hard cap of 10,000 participants; if the event sells out before April 6, 2022, there will be no additional registration made available

Virtual Race Pricing
- $37 -- January 15, 2022 - March 15, 2022 or sellout (whichever comes first)
Virtual race participants can run or walk 3.1mile/5K in the location of their choice, then submit their time to EnMotive to receive a digital finisher's certificate. As part of the virtual race experience, we will host a photo entry contest for participants across several categories, selecting two winners per category:
- Most Maize & Blue Themed Finish
- Most Unique Finish Line Location
- Race Director's Choice
Notes:
- The price for the virtual race is the same regardless of age
- There are 2,000 virtual race registration spots available; if this allotment sells out, no additional virtual race registration spots will be made available
- There is NO pick up option for virtual entries -- all virtual entries will be mailed in March 2022
