Big Ten Athlete of the Week -- Senior Derrick Simmons notched his first collegiate cross country victory at the Eastern Michigan Fall Classic last Friday (Oct. 22) to secure his first career Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor. A mid-distance specialist on the track, Simmons covered five kilometers (3.11 miles) at Hudson Mills Metropark in 15:00.6 to take the individual win over an unattached Michigan State runner by 0.2 seconds.
Devin Meyrer (Sept. 15)
Big Ten Athlete of the Week -- Graduate student Devin Meyrer led the Michigan men to the team victory at the Penn State Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational last Friday (Sept. 10) in the squad's first road trip of the fall 2021 campaign. Meyrer was the third-place finisher in the 5.2-mile (8.369-kilometer) race, covering the grounds of Penn State's Blue and White Courses in 25:18.1 to finish first among Big Ten competitors in the race.
