Wolverine Bites
• The No. 14-ranked Wolverines (11-1, 11-0 B1G) return home to host a pair, welcoming Penn State (7-5, 6-5 B1G) and No. 9 Ohio State (13-3, 10-1 B1G) to the Varsity Tennis Center this weekend. U-M will host PSU Friday (March 26) at 3 p.m. and OSU Sunday (March 28) at noon.
• Michigan is hitting the home stretch of its schedule, with just five regular-season matches remaining. U-M will play four of its final five matches at the Varsity Tennis Center, where the Wolverines are 4-0 this season.
• For the first time since the beginning of January, the ITA has released new singles and doubles rankings. U-M has a trio of players in the singles rankings, with the freshman trio of Kari Miller (No. 38), Jaedan Brown (No. 105) and Gala Mesochoritou (No. 115) each earning a ranking. On the doubles side, Michigan's undefeated pair of Brown and graduate student Chiara Lommer come in at No. 57.
• The ITA switched to computer rankings this week for team rankings, with Michigan coming in at No. 14. U-M is one of three Big Ten schools to appear in the top 25. U-M is also listed at No. 11 in the USTA poll.
• Michigan will see a familiar face against Penn State, with Wolverine great Ronit Yurovsky serving as an assistant coach for the Nittany Lions. Yurovsky was a four-time All-Big Ten performer at Michigan and earned All-America honors during her final season in Ann Arbor (2015-16). She served as Michigan's volunteer assistant coach during the 2018-19 season. This will be Yurovsky's first return to the VTC as a Penn State assistant coach.
• The Wolverines have found multiple ways to win this year, getting contributions up and down the lineup, as well as on the doubles court. U-M is 9-0 when securing the doubles point this season, but the Wolverines have also won a pair of matches without winning the first point of the match (at Ohio State, at Rutgers). U-M's singles depth has shone throughout the season, with eight players seeing action during dual-match play. The Wolverines have gone a combined 28-6 at the bottom of the singles lineup (Nos. 4-6).
• Graduate student Chiara Lommer became the 10th Wolverine in program history to reach 100 career wins, featuring a 101-44 record during her time at Michigan to rank ninth all-time. The lefty is also 13th historically at Michigan with a .697 singles winning percentage.
• Michigan is atop the Big Ten standings with an 11-0 record after picking up a 5-2 win at Michigan State. U-M has now won 25 straight regular-season conference matches, with its last loss coming to Northwestern (4-3) on April 8, 2018.
• During conference action, U-M has outscored its opponents, 59-15, in 11 matches. Michigan has a pair of shutouts, blanking Rutgers (7-0) and Illinois (4-0). The Wolverines are 50-13 in singles play against Big Ten teams so far this season, with Gala Mesochoritou, Chiara Lommer and Jaedan Brown each leading the way with nine wins apiece.
• Penn State (7-5, 6-5 B1G) is coming off a 2-0 weekend with wins over Rutgers and Maryland. U-M recorded a 5-2 win against the Nittany Lions earlier this season, moving to 30-3 all-time against PSU.
• No. 9-ranked Ohio State (7-2, 4-0 B1G) will play at Michigan State Friday (March 26) before heading to Ann Arbor. OSU has one ranked singles player in No. 15 Irina Cantos Siemers and the No. 65-ranked doubles team of Kolie Allen and Isabelle Boulais. U-M has won three straight against OSU and leads the all-time series against the Buckeyes, 46-17.
