
Michigan Drops Series Finale at No. 9-Ranked Ohio State in Straight Sets

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan volleyball team fell to the No. 9 Ohio State Buckeyes in straight sets (17-25, 20-25, 17-25) Saturday (March 20) inside OSU's Covelli Center.
Michigan (4-5, 4-5 B1G) held the tally close early in the set, as the score was knotted at 4, but the Buckeyes pulled away and led by as many as nine points (20-11). U-M crept within five at 22-17, but a 3-0 Buckeye run closed out the set.
Ohio State led wire-to-wire in the second set. U-M came within two points at as late as 21-19, but the Buckeyes closed on a 4-1 run to take set two.
In the third, Michigan evened the score at 4 following a kill by freshman Kendall Murray and crept within a point at 6-5 on a termination from sophomore May Pertofsky. OSU then went on a 5-0 run to bring the count to 11-5. U-M recovered somewhat, drawing to within two points when a block by freshman Jess Mruzik and Pertofsky cut the Buckeye lead to 16-14. U-M brought the count to 19-17 later in the set, but a 6-0 run gave OSU the match.
Junior Paige Jones led U-M with 11 kills and chipped in six digs. Freshman Scottee Johnson had 29 assists, while libero Hannah Grant led all players with 16 digs.
OSU's attack was led by Emily Londot with 16 kills on .448 hitting and 14 kills from Vanja Bukilic, who hit .423. As a team the Buckeyes hit .372 for the match to .188 for U-M.

U-M will close out the home portion of its schedule with two matches against Nebraska, beginning Thursday (March 25) at 8 p.m. The match will be broadcast nationally via Big Ten Network.
