GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team opened the 2021 NCAA Championships with a 10th-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay, earning All-America honorable mentions on Wednesday (March 17) at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The Wolverines were slightly better on Wednesday (7:01.81) than they were when they won gold at the Big Ten Championships last month (7:02.22). Three of the four swimmers from that championship-winning relay swam it again, including freshman Sophie Housey, who led off in 1:45.45, a nearly identical opening split to her leadoff leg at Big Tens (1:45.46).
Housey was followed on the relay by sophomore Megan Glass (1:45.79), junior Olivia Carter (1:45.44) and senior Sierra Schmidt (1:45.13).
The NCAA Championships begin in full force Thursday (March 18) at the Greensboro Aquatic Center with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Both events will be streamed live on ESPN3.
