
Fliegner, Brown, Cerdan Get Singles Wins at Wolverine Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team completed the second day of action at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 2) at the Varsity Tennis Center, winning four singles matches.
Saturday's schedule consisted of two rounds of singles play, with Michigan facing South Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan State throughout the day.
Freshman Julia Fliegner paced the Maize and Blue on the day, getting a pair of straight-set wins over South Carolina's Lindsay Tulenko (6-0, 6-2) and Michigan State's Lauren Lemonds (6-1, 6-1). With the two wins, Fliegner improves to 5-0 in singles during the fall season.
Junior Andrea Cerdan won her second singles match of the weekend, earning a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Notre Dame's Julia Lilien in the morning session. Cerdan got the early break in the first set to coast to the win. In the second, she was down a break early but was able to climb back in it to seal the match in two sets.
Sophomore Jaedan Brown went 1-1 on the singles court on the second day of competition, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Misa Malkin of South Carolina. Brown won the first 10 games of the match en route to the win.
The Wolverines were strong on the doubles court, going 5-1 over two rounds of doubles matches. Brown and junior Andrea Cerdan combined to go 2-0, with the duo of junior Nicole Hammond and Fliegner also finishing with a 2-0 record on the afternoon. Both pairs picked up wins over South Carolina and Ohio State teams.
Michigan will wrap up the weekend Sunday (Oct. 2) with a round of doubles and singles to follow at the Varsity Tennis Center. Action will begin at 10 a.m. With rain in the forecast, if matches are inside, fans are required to wear masks per University of Michigan policy.
