LINCOLN, Neb. -- The 16th-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team was outshot 21-10 and trailed 1-0 in the first half but battled back for a gritty 3-2 win over Nebraska on Sunday (Oct. 10) at Hibner Stadium.
Michigan (9-2-3, 3-1-2 Big Ten) was kept in the match early by senior goalkeeper Hillary Beall, who made a pair of stellar stops to hold the match level in the opening 25 minutes. The Cornhuskers held a 9-2 advantage in shots over the opening 28 minutes.
Nebraska (4-8-2, 0-3-1 Big Ten) took the lead in the 28th minute off a failed Wolverine clearance. Just inside the 18, a Cornhusker sent a ball inside the six that was redirected home by Abbey Schwarz as U-M chased a 1-0 deficit.
Just over five minutes later, the match went level as senior Raleigh Loughman marked her first goal of the day and fourth score of the season. Sophomore Sarah Bridenstine sent in a looping cross into the area that was punched out by the Nebraska goalkeeper. Loughman found herself in a fantastic position and collected the ball at the top of the six before finishing top-left to knot the contest at 1.
U-M took the lead in the 37th minute, as Bridenstine was once again at the center of a U-M tally. She sent in a service from Michigan's half off a set piece to the top of the box, and senior Alia Martin was taken down, resulting in a U-M penalty kick. Junior Dani Wolfe stepped to the spot and finished with a perfectly-placed strike to lift U-M to a 2-1 lead going into the half.
At the break, Nebraska had a 13-4 lead in the shot category and led 7-4 in shots on goal. Beall set a season high for saves in a half with five, while the Cornhuskers had a 7-0 lead in corners.
Loughman gave U-M a 3-1 advantage in the 63rd minute with her second marker of the match. Senior Sydney Shepherd played a ball to sophomore Sammi Woods on the right flank. Woods then found Loughman at the top of the six, and she finished top-center for her fifth goal of the season, tying her for the team lead with fellow senior Nicki Hernandez.
Nebraska added a late goal in the 85th minute to run the count to 3-2, but U-M's defense held strong the rest of the way to secure the three points on the road.

Loughman last scored two goals in a match in the 2019 season. She is the second Wolverine on the campaign to notch a brace, joining Woods (vs. Cincinnati).
Beall finished with 10 saves in her first double-digit effort of the year. U-M was outshot 21-10 for the match and 13-6 in shots on goal.
Michigan concludes its four-match road stretch with a 2-1-1 mark and next will host Michigan State on Thursday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium. Three of U-M's final four regular-season matches will be played at home.
