The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (4-1, 3-1 Big Ten) will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to take on No. 10 Iowa on Sunday (March 15) at 2:30 p.m. CDT at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in a nationally televised matchup on Big Ten Network. Dean Linke and U-M alum Stacey Ervin (2012-15) will be on the call. Michigan sits in first place in the Big Ten standings.
Wolverine Bites
• U-M ranks No. 1 in the country on high bar (68.450) and is ranked in the top-six on five events. U-M also is No. 2 on pommel horse (67.950) and parallel bars (69.767). The Wolverines boast a No. 4 ranking on still rings (68.000) and No. 5 on floor exercise (69.483).
• For their performances against Penn State and Illinois, junior Cameron Bock (gymnast of the week), and freshman Paul Juda (rookie of the week) were honored by the College Gymnastics Association. Bock won both high bar and parallel bars in the meet, while Juda took home floor exercise and vault honors.
• Michigan leads Iowa on all six events in the team rankings. U-M is in the top-five on all six events, highlighted by a No. 1 ranking on high bar (67.567) and No. 2 ranking on pommel horse (66.600) and parallel bars (68.250).
• U-M boasts a pair of gymnasts who lead the country in their respective events in junior Nick Guy (vault, 14.717) and freshman Paul Juda (high bar, 14.083). Juda also ranks No. 4 in the country on floor with a 14.433 average score and a high of 15.000, the third-highest mark in the country. In the all-around, he is No. 6 with a 79.750 average. His high score of 84.050 is the fourth-highest in the NCAA.
• Junior Cameron Bock ranks in the top-10 on three events, led by a No. 2 mark on still rings (14.250), as well as a No. 3 score on parallel bars (14.317). He also is eighth on pommel horse (13.750). His all-around score of 83.150 is the sixth-highest score in the country.
• On individual events, senior Mack Lasker ranks No. 5 on pommel horse (13.867), junior Jonathan Liu checks in at No. 10 on high bar (13.683).
• Based off rankings, the closest event in the meet is vault, where Michigan ranks No. 5 (70.817) and the Hawkeyes rank No. 6 (70.683). Iowa boasts two gymnasts who rank in the top 10 in the all-around rankings in No. 5 Bennett Huang (80.883) and No. 8 Evan Daniels (79.283).
• With a 3-1 Big Ten record, U-M has two Big Ten meets remaining. The Wolverines sit atop the conference standings, with Illinois (3-1-1) and Nebraska (2-1) within striking distance. U-M holds tiebreakers over Minnesota (1-1), Penn State (1-3) and Ohio State (1-2), all of which are mathematically alive for the crown.
• Michigan leads, 16-8, in the all-time series against Iowa. Last season, U-M fell to the Hawkeyes at Cliff Keen Arena. The last time U-M competed at Iowa in a dual meet was the 2010 season.
